Tulsa Celebrates Earth Day; do you?

Discussions about our environment: global warming, pollution, and waste; are really taking the light here in Tulsa. Earth day happened, but that does not mean we can stop doing our part to keep our land grand. When I was growing up I used to notice those signs along Interstate-44 when my family and I would drive to relatives homes near Oklahoma City for holidays and recite them in a modest shout. I guess I never really understood the impact of what they meant or what they stood for.

First, I’m no preacher on the subject of recycling or being earth friendly. Anyone who knows me personally, its obvious I use if not abuse my right to purchase and throw away paper towels, paper plates, and take-away containers; I drive a politically incorrect gas guzzling beast of a S.U.V.; and I constantly drop my cigarette butts out the window. I’m trying to make some changes, small baby steps that hopefully will advance my love for the planet.

I found a website, The Metropolitan Environmental Trust today and found many of the events on their upcoming schedule to be intriguing. I knew there were tons of events and happenings taking place throughout the city, but I never paid attention enough to write down the details. Their wonderful site has all these details in one place.

You know, I never have really “committed” to do anything to help the environment. But this year, I want to turn that around.
I’d like to start by recycling glass, plastic and paper…maybe after those sink in for a while I’ll move to more drastic “green” efforts.
